Connection

I see your picture on the screen,
I know you well.
I hear your voice across the air,
I know you well.
The jolt of recognition.
Where are you from?
A distant past no longer known.
How many lives have we between?
And now we stand and look and say,
I know you well.

Searching

A time is set, a place to meet.
Anticipation grows. Is this The One?
A glance, a smile, an awkward Hello.
The realisation grows that once again
This is not who I search for.
The meeting is pleasant.
We talk and we laugh
Knowing full well
We will permanently part.

Departure

As time to leave approaches
Prickles of pain begin to build
Into a dull ache.
Tears push to be spilt,
Held back only by force of will
Not to show the depth of feeling
That threatens to overwhelm.

And now, farewells are done.
The train has pulled away.
Alone, only now can pain be released
Yet still with control. A public place
Restricts full venting to silent tears.

An hour goes by, and still they flow.
Complete release will have to wait
Until safe in the family home
When, alone at last, the final
Shards can be extracted.
The soothing water of a lonely shower
Will help to heal the barrier again.

I wrote this poem on the train, in tears as it says, after spending a wonderful week with my lover. The whole experience was brilliant and I did not want to leave. I had a 5 hour journey and that was how long it took me to complete this piece.
